How much are you getting Critter ? looks like we could get a foot of the heavy wet stuff, that with the leaves still on the trees will be special ! Was thinking about putting the blower on the tractor but guess I'll hold off for now !

It has been snowing all day. We live in the woods and are surrounded with the sounds of trees creaking, groaning and breaking under the weight of all that snow. Bad thing is that there is no place on our property to put the vehicles that can't be touched by a falling limb. So we put them near the youngest- and hopefully strongest trees.

It's crazy, was not supposed to change to snow til 5 or 6pm. Started 5 hours early so I think it is gonna be bad.

Picture out my dining room window, 2pm 10/29/11. Yes that's a rose in bloom outside.

Been snowing since early this morning here in NEPA and still is. I did not have a chance to mark my driveway... hope I don't tear my grass when I plow later. Not ready yet for snow...

Christmas in October? I thought Walmart and Home Depot were sure putting up their Christmas decorations awfully early, but maybe they knew something.

Yup I was in HD yesterday and was shaking my head over all the Christmas stuff already out. I'm about to turn on my Christmas lights on, which I was to lazy to take off a 15 ft tall tree in front of the house, from last Christmas

But this Storm is really no laughing mater, massive tree damage already, much worse than from the hurricane, alot of damage in my little patch of woods. Wires down and streets blocked all over town. 500,000 people without power as of 6pm here in CT

Yeah, JB, the Christmas comment was a bit of a laughing matter, but the storm certainly is not. I hope everyone makes it through the storm alright.

At least a couple have not already, 2 deaths attributed to storm Alfred so far, according to the news.

I know for sure you meant no ill will.

Mike above mentioned the trees cracking and groaning all around him. I read that before I went outside. When I did go out, that's exactly what I heard as well. tried going out in the woods to see what sounded like a tree going down but ended up running for cover when branches started cracking overhead.

The amazing thing is there was only an inch or so of this wet snow on the trees, so it has to be due to the leaves still being on the trees, because we often have much more snow than that in the trees in the winter without this much damage.

I just saw a news story that more than 2.2 million customers are without electrical power in the northeast. That can be very serious when it's either very hot or very cold. And with that many outages I'm sure it'll take some time to restore power.

Here's hoping that everyone affected by the severe weather remains safe. Please be careful. And this comes from the bottom of my Heart.:tractor:

I do not want to sound mean but, I hope you folks get all the snow this winter!:D

I only got 6" but still have power. I am hopeful for the millions without power
they can be re-powered soon. This is a time when a woodstove and wholehouse generator make getting through the outage a lot easier.

Be safe.

I just came in from pushing it all out of the way. Not the snow, but rather the broken branches. We have two very mature sugar maples that really took a hit - like 50% of all branch tips broken off. I just pushed them all into a huge pile until the snow melts. Bad way to get firewood...

My big sugar maple already lost all it's leaves as well as the ash trees, so not much damage there but the oaks really took it bad, they still had 60% of their leaves. I have not even gone out there just what I can see from the window, I have alot of clean up to do. I also have monster evergreens 80-90 feet tall, don't see a single branch down under them, they're use to it I guess.

As far as those with out power, we never loose it except for a minute or 2. and I have all these plans on what to do with my pto genny when do loose it.

We do have the utility companies main headquarters in town, wonder if that has anything to do with it ;) but probably our close proximity to the main transmission line which is a mile away.

I was thinking during the hurricane when there were so many without power 2 months ago, that if that happened in the winter people would be freezing to death in their homes. Since the temps are in the 40's daytime I don't think that will happen now, but it does feel cold, when I opened the door this morning it felt like an ice box with all the snow on the ground, not like a fall day.

We woke up to around two feet of heavy wet snow. It looks really clean around here with all of the leaves covered (LOL) Just too early to have this much snow fall. Just hope it is not a weekly affair
