Tractor
Kubota L4701HST, BCS 853
I recently purchased a used Kubota L4701 (waiting on delivery) and am trying to decide on what attachments to buy. If you have attachment/brand suggestions or ideas I'd love to hear them. I would also like to hear feedback on adding Pat's Easy Change quick hitch system to this tractor to use with the attachments I've listed below.

Background: On 21 acres since 2013. I've been farming without a tractor (unless you count a BCS 853). Lately, I've been realizing much of the work I do around the farm would be significantly easier and faster with a tractor. Almost all of our farm is in pasture as I've been raising grass fed beef. We have a large garden, many tree lines and fence rows. Always plenty of trees to cleanup. I need to mow the pastures at least once a year to keep trees in check. This year I'll likely be mowing much more as I'm taking a break from cattle. I would also like to smooth out and replant a lot of the pasture.

Attachments I'm planning to get now
  • Root Grapple - EA 55 Inch Wicked
  • Rotary Mower - Woods 72" BB72.3 or Titan Implements 72" 1406 or EA 72" Xtreme Duty
  • Subsoiler - Everything Attachments
Attachments I'm considering getting someday
  • Box Blade
  • Disc Harrow
  • Wood Chipper

On 21 acres in PA since 2013.

I recently purchased a used Kubota L4701.

I would like to smooth out and replant a lot of the pasture.
If you are going to renovate your pasture, FIRST GET A SOIL TEST. Ask for soil test recommendations for whatever type of pasture grass you intend to plant.

You can likely find a 2 X 12" or 2 X 14" used moldboard plow for $400. Plowing once a decade improves soil fertility at low cost.

A Disc Harrow traditionally follows the plow. Disc Harrow is the implement of choice for mixing soil and smoothing/leveling land over five acres in size.

Monroe/Tufline produces Big Ag spec equipment sized for compact tractors.

When your L4701 arrives post the outside to outside width of your tires so we can recommend optimum width implements.

Consider if Pallet Forks will not serve in lieu of a grapple. One heck of a lot simpler and probably very useful to you for moving gear besides treee debris.

The L4701 just arrived today. I measured the tires outside to outside at 65.5". I think specifications say 62.5"

I just got a used L4701 as well and mine came with this grapple which I've been happy with so far.

I have the 60in.

I also have a 72in land pride rotary cutter and I haven't been able to bog down the tractor even in the thickest brush with it.

And a 66in land pride tiller, but I haven't used it yet.

I agree I’ve removed 100s of trees with pallet forks obviously chainsawed first thin stacked and burned.

Yes I would like too get Pallet Forks. Do you have any recommendations on pallet forks?

SSQA equipped FEL allows you to switch between SSQA bucket and SSQA pallet forks in just a minute.

If your FEL is not SSQA equipped there are a number clamp-on-the-bucket pallet forks out there.

36" to 38" tine length is more maneuverable than 42" to 48" length.

Easy change of fork spread is desirable. Narrow spread for small brush piles. Wider spread to increase stability when moving tree trunks.

SSQA pallet forks come with an operator guard. Clamp-on pallet forks do not.
Sooner or later everyone with clamp-on forks has a log roll over the bucket and land on the tractor hood, hopefully without injuring the operator. (Ask me how I know.)

Also research Three Point Hitch mounted pallet forks. You can only lift loads 24" but the load is safe in back of the tractor. Logs cannot hit you. Vines cannot get under tractor wheels. You do not need to drive in reverse in order to see, with really large brush loads, as you have to do occasionally with FEL pallet forks. PHOTO

You will have to adjust attack angle of TPH forks using the Top Link.
