This may be to simple to post here but what the heck, it might give someone an idea.
I got tired of getting up close and personal to the butt end of a snowy log while I tried to push the pin end of a choker underneath and then grab it on the other side to pull it through. The pin always seems to be to short and to slippery. I had some time in the shop today so I made this Choker Grab Hook.

Nice job! I've thought about buying one of these for a while since all my choker pins are gettin pretty bent up. What did you make it out of?

I used stuff I had, I took a piece of 5/16" rod heated one end and formed a button like a nail head. Slid on a 5/16" washer then a 5/16" 1 1/4" dia fender washer and brazed the washers to the button to make a domed top. Took a piece of 1 1/4" fir closet pole and drilled a 5/16" hole down thru it and slid that on the rod for the handle. Then I took another fender washer, laid another standard washer on top of it, and stood a short section of 1/2" OD hydraulic tube on the washers. I brazed those together and slid the assembly on the rod against the handle. Then I brazed the lower end of the hydraulic tube to the rod to capture the handle. Last I heated the end of the rod and formed it around a 1/2" bolt to make the hook.
It is 36" long.

Nice build.
Question unrelated to what you`ve built but in the pic, the slip hook on the chain, where did you get it and what is it`s proper name. I`ve tried to describe it to our local rigging supplier and all I`ve gotten was dumb looks.....Mike

Thanks. Bailey's is good. Also if your closer to the east cost Labonville

Choker Hooks

Most chainsaw dealers here ( not box stores or hardware chains ) carry them and definately any logging supplier.
gg

EDIT: if you have 5/16" chain you will have to get this one. Standard size is 3/8" so make sure you check.
