I'm confused. I'm wanting to get a ball mount with a 4" drop that fits a 1 1/4" ball shank. I'm seeing forged and welded mounts. I need one rated for at least 10,000 lbs.

Which is better? forged or welded? or does it matter.

thanks

Maybe someone else is a better authority on the subject, but I was always told that Forged is stronger, because welds can become fatigued over time. Hopefully some one might have a more definitive answer.:tractor:

I have never had a problem with either type.

in theory forged is better....

but given cheep chinese forged metal vs quality welded steel... may not be any diff at all

Where I'm looking there doesn't seem to be too much difference in price. I'm leaning for welded...

I guess which ever you like the looks of best and the price better. I have a few of each and in all practicality they are both just as strong.
