chipper wont start.....coil??????

it is a wisconsin motor.
started this morning.went to do a tune up ....points, plugs, cap, rotor, condenser.
went to restart ......would not fire up.
no spark coming from the coil.
went and bought new coil......still no spark.
i have 12v at the pos side of the coil,12v at the neg side that goes to the distributer.
am i missing something obvious?????? spent all afternoon on this.

Did you adjust the points correctly? I don't know what gap they should have. In my knowledge with Briggs engines the coil is just about bullet proof, usually something else. I don't know about a wisconsin. My only wisconsin has a magneto ignition. What is the air gap on your new coil and the flywheel? Should probably be around .003" to .005", I don't remember exactly without a shop manual in front of me.

after a nights sleep took everything apart aand found the problem w/
the ground inside the distrib.
put it all back and she fired right up.
ran it for a few hours then the engine died.........
electric fuel pump this time......ughhhhhhhh
back to the parts store.
my buddy at the parts store even took back the coil so just got the new fuel pump.
everything ok know........so far
