I'm looking at a Chinese built BX42s knockoff available locally on a buy and sell site. The asking price is $1500 OBO Canuckastan pesos. The unit is unused, still in its metal crate cage. Comes with the PTO shaft. Anyone have specific experience with these Wallenstein knockoffs? I've seen these offered on the web from many different suppliers for between $1700-2500 US. So the asking price seems reasonable.

I bought one at auction a couple years ago. Seems to work fine except for going through a few shear bolts during the learning curve. I only wish it had more blades on the flywheel, chips are fairly coarse.
I run it off my MX5100 HST. Wouldn't want any less HP(50)

Chips are coarse, you say? Do you mean that they are larger than you expected because of fewer cutters? I am specifically looking for a chipper that will create larger chips than typical, so this is very interesting to me.

I have seen chips 8 to 10" in length, 1/4 to 3/8" thick, so yes, a little larger than I expected. To be fair though, I chip everything from branches to scrap lumber, so I don't expect total uniformity.
Most of the time the result is 3 or 4 inch long, 1/4 inch thick, from scrap lumber, somewhat finer from branches.

From a guy that uses a Bandit, chip quality/size is controlled by infeed rate, along with sharp knives and a very close anvil adjustment. Anvil to knife clearance should be about a credit card ish.
