Today, the real reason of importing products is neither of these 2. It is nonavailability of manufacturers in the country anymore. For example, if USA stops importing cast products today, there will be a crisis in the whole USA industry. Of course, there are foundries in USA, but their numbers are not enough anymore to supply the needs of whole USA industry. The same can be said for West Europe, Japan, etc. So, this way or that way, these countries have to import. But, where? You have these choices for industrial items; Category 1: Spain, Italy, Turkey, etc. Category 2: China, India, Pakistan, etc. It is defacto that among these countries who can export products with "relatively" cheaper prices, China is most attractive country for big and many companies in the world who are in industrial businesses and most of them are already manufacturing their items in China. They are just not labelling the products as Made in China. I am not trying to promote any product of China here, just telling about a fact, unavoidable reality. No need to cheat naive people of the world.
