Chicken tractor??

Why are they called that?? I get that you pull it around with the tractor but is that it? Anyway starting on mine. No plans just totally winging it. Got an old 6'x8' trailer that I'm starting with, tore the rails off and ground down the welds. Here's the trailer will post more as it progresses. 7

I'm curious to see what are you going to do with a trailer.

The chicken tractors I'm familiar with have an open bottom so that the chickens can graze/forage on the ground. You move the chicken tractor around to give the chickens new ground on which to forage. They are typically very lightweight and can be moved by hand or with a 4 wheeler. Here's a chicken tractor website with lots of pictures.

I already have a run built for the chickens that they are in right now with a brooding box. It's 2x4 base with arched PVC and chicken wire that I will connect to the trailer. I'm using the trailer just because it's around and I have no other uses for it. Most of the chicken tractors that I've seen online are all one structure. Mine will be two the house and the run. I'll connect the run to the trailer so when I pull one it moves the other. I'm planning on a couple dozen chickens in the future and this should give me the size and diversity that I want if I want to make a bigger run or clip their wings and let them free range.

Well since someone guilted me into it I guess I can update my project thread. Still need a few more pics but here's what I've got. Chickens are in roof is on and got a coat of paint on it but still need to finish the trim. More pics to follow.
