Re: Chicken Doody. We\'re Saved!

Gordon,

Bay City is dead straight on the other side of the state and a little South from me. Harrison is about 1/2 way there and a little bit (30 miles or so North). That whole Bay City area has really built up over the years, doesn't look anything like I remember as a kid. I worked for a company out of Saginaw for a couple of years, and the area has built up even since then.

Well, like you said it isn't artificial! Harmful? that depends on your definition of harmful. Digest is added because of the protein and it is suppose to make it better tasting (how they know this I don't even want to know). I'm sure there are snacks your dog would love just as much without the digest.

Something else of note, if you want to improve your dog's digestion (less dog doody) use brands with little or no corn. Corn is used as filler to bind the other ingredients together during the cooking process but can't be digested by dogs. So they pass it as doody, the more corn in the food, the more doody.

Re: Chicken Doody. We\'re Saved!

Wrong Mr Pitbull...

They can and do digest corn. Since a dog is a monogastric they are similar to us. Yes when we eat corn some passes but the finer it is ground the more surface area and the more digestion that takes place. True dogs digest meat, dairy products and fish the best. These are what are referred to as a hi-biological value proteins whereas corn also has protein (as I recall about 4%) but it is not as digestible in monogastrics but the carbohydrates are well digested. Noone uses corn for a protein source. Look at it this way - a pig is a monogastric animal and what do they fatten them up on? Corn for the CHO and soybeans for the protein. So your idea is just internet BS.

Re: Chicken Doody. We\'re Saved!

DrDan,

OK, I stand corrected. The corn info was given to me by a dog trainer who I had no reason to doubt since he wasn't trying to sell me anything. However, my dogs have reduced the amount of doody since switching to a low corn content food. Whether its the absence of corn or just better food I guess is another question.
