I'm just like you. As soon as I get my garden in, I start work on my chicken coop. I'm going to go with a chicken tractor though, so I can drag it around with the tractor. Got to keep that equipment busy, right????? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I could believe that! Its amazing how much they eat in a day! My Rocks could really clean up!

The chicks are a special breed that grow very fast and convert feed extremely well. On the feed question, it's specially formulated for the age of the chicken. I do know they add a coccidistat but no steroids.

I am also interested in keeping chickens but i think i have a number of problems
a) the hilton sisters pictured to the left may not be that keen on sharing the land with them
b) a neighbour lost her flock to a hawk that resides near us.
c) i understand that rats are a problem.

Went to tsc this weekend to checkout their chicks and ducklings on sale (What does it do for your self esteem in life if you start out at a discount?). Came away instead with 2 books on how to raise them. As we have a pond I think the ducks will be a better addition to the family menagerie.
