Man some times I have to put the stick in several times and hold it up just right to the light at the right angle. I would go with a bright flashlight or magnifying glass before messing with the oil. Not what you wanted to hear eh.

you can get oil tint from JD.. or drill a 1/16 hole in the dipstick.. both work.

Takes a little patience but I a paper towel.

Pull the dipstick out and then slowly slide the towel down until you see it start to change color from oil absorption. Toilet paper or kleenex work well just be sure to get all of the lint/fuzz off of the dipstick.

I have this same trouble so I always slide my thumb along the stick until I see oil begin to pile up in front of my thumb.
