Yanmar 424 TLB
Hey y'all, I'm in the market for a CUT and the Yanmar 424 is on the short list. I'm new to this market and type of machine so I'm always scouring the internet for good images. I thought I'd share some pictures I took, since "detail" photos are hard to find online of this machine and I'm sure I'm not the only gearhead out there fishing for photos. All in all, I was pretty impressed with how robust this thing was. The good folks at Alamance Outdoor Equipment in Burlington, NC let me take it for a test drive.

One thing stuck with me about this tractor - it looks and feels like everything was really designed to work together. More than I can say for some other machines I've looked at, where, for example, the BH sort of looks bolted on as an afterthought. The 424 looks like it was created from scratch to be a TLB.

Enjoy the pics!

I like the BH layout also. Hoe could stand about another foot of reach.

That backhoe looks too small to me, like it's for a size smaller tractor or something.

The backhoe does look a bit stubby, because it is. It has about 104" of centerline reach. For comparison, the BH on an LS XJ2025h has about 9 more inches of reach. Not an ideal match for the size of tractor, but it looks like Yanmar wanted to save money with "one hoe to rule them all", since this unit is on the 221 (much smaller) and 324 (same chassis, smaller tires). That said, it does look incredibly robust and well integrated into the design in terms of mounting. To compare the XJ2025h again, it gains only 3 inches more digging depth despite 9 more inches of reach. This is all from specs on paper- would be interesting to see them and some other machines digging side by side.

Here's an interesting fact: I contacted Woods Equipment about their backhoes and they confirmed that the Yanmar 424 "factory" BH is actually one of theirs, produced by Woods. So far they haven't said whether it's a modified BH65, but if digging depth is any indicator, the Yanmar model appears to be the same (or at least related to) the BH65. I don't understand the difference in bucket force numbers (roughly 2000lbs for Yanmar, 2,800 for Woods BH65). Either Yanmar is under-reporting the specs, or it's a de-tuned model BH65, or something else. But Yanmar is calling theirs a "B65".
