chatter from loader when lifting

My Ford 335 tractor has a Bucket loader and Gannon scraper. Loader will lift full height and the oil is full in the rear end, but it chatters and hesitates.So sometimes I have to move control valve to get it to lift, but it still chatters and will go all the way up. Is it in the control valve or the pump that operatesd the lift??

Chatter as rocks in a can or marbles in a tube.

That sounds like cavitation.

A relief valve will squeal/ whine.

External load checks may chatter as the pressure tries to overcome the load pressure.

I am not a self-proclaimed hydraulic expert like some...... But here is my stab at whats going on.

Is it a constant issue after the tractor has warmed all the way up or just when you just start working the loader when everything is not warm yet? Does it only do it at an idle or all threw the r.p.m range?

It sounds like cavitation to me. But either from cold, thicker oil not getting threw a filter/screens fast enough when cold, OR a filter/ suction screen that is in need of changing or cleaning not letting enough oil threw at all.

Again, I am not a self-proclaimed expert on hydraulic issues like some..... Its been my experience that when pumps go bad they either get so weak do to wear everything tied to it gets real slow....but then sometimes a pump will implode or sometimes pumps explode. Valves do funny things but your issues do not sound like a valve to me, but I am not there to listen or watch offending problem.

Again, I am not a self-proclaimed expert on hydraulic issues like some..... If it were my tractor, I would start by draining the oil, changing the filter or cleaning suction screen refill with some fresh oil and see what that would do. If that did not help, I would find out where and how to test pump pressure and go from there.

Although I am not an expert either, you might install a hyd gage in the IN port of the loader in a tee and monitor and trouble shoot the hyd system.

Other experts might chime in here and help solve the problem .

Clean the suction screen if the tractor has one and let us know the condition of the screen.

Relief should be around 2100 psi.

Does it lift if you feather the control so it lifts very slow? If yes you probably have a quick disconnect that is closing due to excessive pressure drop caused by increased flow. Try putting the fel on the ground and releasing all the pressure in the lines and then disconnect and reconnect the lines.

Thanks for your welcome information. I am going to start with the hydrolic pump. However, on the left side of the tractor I see the pump to the engine with a easy to change filter attached. Next to it I see the hydrolic pump. There is no visable external filter /screen that I can see. I have the manuals and still cannot locate where the filter/screen is. Any suggestion!
