Charged for travel time on warranty work?

Not wanting to offend anyone, open old wounds or a can of worms but: where is it written it is the Dealers responsibilty to provide home based or transport tractors for warranty repairs? I have never owned a vehicle, tractor, lawn mower or other motorized piece of equipment that it was not my responsibility to present the vehicle, tractor or other equipment for warranty repairs. I can just hear the response I would receive from the local Chevrolet Dealer if I called and said "It's Broke" come get it and fix it and I don't want to hear anything about a service charge or transport fees.

Everything goes back to the written warranty... with modifications as required by Individual State Law.

Often, High End Auto Manufacturers provide roadside service and free towing for all warranty work where the vehicle cannot be safely operated. BMW and Mercedes are 2 that come to mind...

In many cases, on small items... the customer is responsible for returning the product and if found defective, the manufacturer is required to return the item at no charge.

Some items are covered by in home service... typically large appliance such as Washing Machines, Dryers and built in type appliances.

I had a friend that services very large Caterpillar Tractors and he spent almost all of his time out in the field...

I asked him once if CAT charges for warranty work travel... he laughed and said when a customer spends hundreds of thousands of Dollars or more... we go to the customer... he also said that it can easily cost several thousand dollars just move one of the big CATs cross town.

Thanks for all of the replies. I guess I should have read the fine print on all paperwork before signing. The ironic thing is when I purchased a Massey and NH TN65 prior to the TN75DA from two other dealers there was zero cost for warranty work for two years.

My primary issue is when I looked at the TN75DA on the dealers\ lot I noticed water on the floor inside the cab and on the inside of the window and stated my concerns. A year later it still leaks water and those two service calls to address that issue along with other minor problems were free, and in my mind should be.

The last service call made to fix items totally unrelated to water problem is what I was charged for. I don\稚 have a problem paying for if it is something I\知 responsible for, and it appears that is the case.

Your warranty specifically states that hauling and probably travel time is not covered under warranty. Warranty work is only covered in the dealer's shop and it is your responsibility to get you rmachine there. If the dealer covers it, it is coming out of his pocket.

I agree with andy.. I know when i bought my last 2 tractors fromthe NH dealer.. they pointed out the stickers onthe dash that said haul/pickup was not included in warranty work.

For me, it is written in my sales contract. The dealer is 30 miles away, and I wanted to avoid these travel costs. I asked the dealer if they charged for travel and transport for warranty work. He said usually not if they are in the area for other servicing. I then requested that the sales contract state that there would be no travel or trailering charges for warranty work as long as I gave at least a week's notice, and the dealer obliged.

My dealer sent two coupons for free transport to their shop for warranty or repairs. I wouldn't expect them to do it for nothing if this wasn't part of their new purchase plan. With fuel costs, labor, insurance, ect.... how can you expect them to stay in business ?

The only time I would expect the dealer to come and fix my machine would be if I had just taken it to them for a repair and it broke again shortly after.

In support of dealers, my dealer has come out twice to perform warranty work on my TC48, and never charged me a cent for travel to and from my place. A TN75 is a big machine to transport. :)
