Hi,

I just picked up one of these in the 72" width the other day. I haven't had much time to look at it but when I glanced at the gear box, I didn't see what would appear to be a drain plug. I do see a sight glass on the side and I assume that's not supposed to be removed and it wouldn't be at the bottom anyway to allow it to drain completely. My question is, is there really a drain plug on these somewhere (if you own one chime in) or do you just have to suck out the old fluid when changing the gear oil in th e gearbox?

Thanks

I don't know about that specific mower, but my cutter/brush hog doesn't have a drain plug. I think most people use something like this to pull the used grease out of the fill hole:

Oil Suction Gun

It's what I use and it works great.

There's at least one guy on here that flips his cutter over to drain it. I'm not that brave.

Yeah I don't think I'll be flipping it over :) I'll stick with sucking it out. I already have a hand operated pump to do this. Just wanted to make sure that was the only way.

Something I use on my gear boxes to get the oil out is my turkey baster from the kitchen . I keep it hidden in the barn now.

I have a Sicma. I replaced the fluid after a couple hours and replaced it with synthetic,75w-90 at Ken Sweet's suggestion.

I used a suction bulb, attached to a small diameter, clear, siphoning hose. It worked well. Took about 45 minutes to empty itself.

If the gear box uses oil, I would consider, drill, tap, plug. Also I would cross drill the plug for safety wire.
