Changing Farmall 240 to 12V

Can anyone give me any pointers to instructions and or any available kit to convert a 60's vintage Farmall 240 from 6Volts to 12Volts. If it helps the serial number looks to be 3981 J. It is one of the tractors my father had on our family farm that we are trying to get up and running again. Thanks!

If you want it to look original you can have an alternator shop put a 12 volt armature in the genearator and change to a 12 volt regulator and it will work. That is what I did with the super C that I restored. The starter will work fine and the lights can be changed. You will also have to add a resister to the wire to the coil to reduce the voltage or otherwise replace the coil with a 12 volt internal ballast style.Another option is to fab a bracket and use one of those one wire GM alternators for the conversion. I certainly dont want to discourage you if your lookin to convert to 12 v but I have a 42 Farmall A and a 49 Farmall Super A that are both still 6 volts and they start in the coldest of weather. I use 20 wt oil and they are both in perfect tune and they will start ! I still use the 49 to plow snow !
