I am trying to change blades on my LS45 mower deck. I have deck off and have a stout 1/2 " drive long bar with socket. I chock the blade like the manual says but when I turn the blade (counter clockwise to remove) there is some resistance but then the spindle and pulley on reverse side just turn so there is no resistance on the nut.

What to do?

thanks, dan

*looks confused* huh?

is there a spot to stick a screw driver into, to hold things. so you can get the nut off? kinda like a weed eater head / trimmer head, were ya stick a peice of rod or screw driver, through shield and into the rotating head part, so you can then turn the nut off to put new string in.

did ya use a flat head screw driver and/or paint scrapper and/or wire brush and clean off all the old gunk of grass and like. wondering if you are trying to remove wrong thing.

I probably have the same deck on my LS 55. I know this might not help, but working on mower blades without an air impact wrench is just no fun at all. It sounds like the blade is not coupled to the bolt/spindle. You can try some penetrating oil but an air impact wrench is really what you need.

I second the impact wrench.
