Your parents would have the same of your music!:D

 agreed  But I still say music must be, at the very least, running out of words :p Everything is either a remake or just babbles nothing. Then there is what they call country music{modern} it sounds more like the pop music from the 70's and 80's. Oh man,...... next they'll bring back "DISCO" :ashamed: :p

A lot of the music of all types just isn't that great. Just look at all the yard sale and thrift shop CDs or even vinyl records when you see them. Some of the "music" is flatly offensive, and it's hard to believe any responsible person would record it and produce it. It's just audio poison to the soul.

TV programming---well, it's not so good either.

I can't quite explain it, but I think the generation that came out of the Depression and WWII had a certain decency and respect for one another that has gone missing somewhere along the way.

Well, I think that generation, the one of my parents, had a lot of good qualities. But they also had their faults. After all, they raised the baby boomers. So, in effect, they are responsible for the baby boomers' values, ethics, morals and actions. They raised the current set of CEOs and bankers. I think they went through some very tough times, didn't wish their kids to experience those tough times, and went soft on raising them. That's what I think. They also accomplished a lot of good, so I am not trying to put them down. That's just what I have observed over my life in my circle of peers.

I grew up in the 50's and I am so very sad my grand daughter will not ever know that way of life. The profanity in todays music is unconcionable and yes my parents did not like Elvis but there is no comparison to the sordid music of today and now on satelite or cable we have full frontal nudity..and the F word...I have to turn the TV off most times and for sure when the grand daughter is over since I never know when " Bob " is going to come on a commercial and talk about male enhancement..

Just where have out values and culture gone ? All this Political Correctness has brought us nothing but heartache and is destroying our country...I'm done !

Yep. We have filters on our satellite and only the wife and I know the password. Our kids know when something is on that they shouldn't watch and take appropriate action... they turn it off. If something inappropriate does come on we usually say something like "Ew! That's nasty" and change the channel and explain to them why. You can't shield them from everything, so you have to equip them to deal with all situations. So far so good with ours, knock on wood.

Now, to say the 50s were so much better... I have to wonder?

For one thing, the place wasn't so crowded. There are twice as many people in the country as there were then, so, half as much space today. Hard to go anywhere without running into other people. Pack 'em in like sardines and there will be discord. There weren't outlets for news (and gossip) like there is today, so you just didn't hear about the problems in society as fast as you would today. Now you hear every story from every little podunk town. That stuff happened in those towns in the 50's too, but you never heard about it.

Second, there was foul language back then, too. Many of the old dudes I met cussed like drunken sailors when their wives weren't around. They also made derogatory remarks about women and were extremely racist. So, while the actual words may have changed the intentions of those words have not.

Third, there were lurid images back then, too. As the old dudes die off, I get to clean out their houses from time to time. Guess what? They all had something stashed somewhere that had lurid images in it. You usually find it in the garage or tool room, in the bottom of an old fruit crate with some cigar boxes full of stuff on top of them. Their wives usually knew about it but never let on.

So, I think the only differences between then and now is that stuff is not hidden as much AND there is twice as much of it due to the doubling of the population. It was there, but people tended to pretend it didn't exist. That, or they were extremely naive.

*I miss picking up the phone and hearing a well trained operator say "number puleeze". In an emergency they were right there, faster than 911. Those operators must have saved countless lives. If a child could pick up the receiver he could get help without being able to dial. I guess new and improved has its disadvantages.
Yeah Egon , I think the mirrors in my house came from a carnival.
*speeking of phones>The phones themselves seemed to be better more dependable and longer lasting back then.
My parents got their first last and only phone back about 1945.
It was still going strong in 1989 when mom died.
Probably would be still going today had she lived long enough.
