Rear Finish Mower Change Oil in Rear Finish Mower

I have a Land Pride FDR2584 rear finish mower. I have maybe 400 hours on it of medium duty use.

In my operators manual there is no mention of changing oil but for some reason I have penciled in to change oil at 200 hours. Does it need to be changed?

I was going to change it today but how in the world would a guy remove the oil as there isn't any plug below the oil level plug. I am asking if there is a plug underneath that I can't readily find. I considered sucking oil out somehow but don't know if that would be good enough. I could tip the mower upside down but risk damage knowing my luck.

Ive got an AT2572 that I bought 20 years ago no telling how many hours on it, never have changed the gearbox oil.

I've got a 35 year old King Kutter brush cutter running the original synthetic gear oil it came with.

I've got a Phoenix 7' finish mower with about the same hours as yours, and the only way I could find to change the gear oil, was to suck out the old stuff and replace it.

In theory, you shouldn't have to replace it since it's not exposed to the air, combustion, etc. It's a sealed unit, so no dirt can intrude into the chamber. But I wanted to change mine anyway.

Just be sure you get the right weight oil for your machine.

I change the gear oil in my gear boxes on a regular basis. They are not cheap to replace.
I generally run the implement for an hour or so, then use a large syringe and tubing to get the oil out and replace with synthetic.

That said, most gear box failures are the result of failed seals and subsequent destruction of the gear box.
