On my 1987 JD750 with 4WD, can I change the hydraulic oil filter (JD part number RE27284) with the reservoir full? Or will the hydraulic fluid all drain out once I unscrew the filter?

Not sure but if the filter is below the oil you can hook up a vacuum cleaner to the reservoir and do it that way. The vacuum will keep the oil from coming out. Just make sure it's on suck and not blow (well that sounds just wrong :) ),
Buddy of mine at work was changing a fitting on the bottom of a 40 gallon tank on a plow truck. He hooked up the shop vac, taped the hose to the fill to keep it in place, turned on the vacuum and then crawled under the truck. He then proceeded to unscrew the 2" suction line that had been dripping around the threads, you can imagine the rest. He said afterwords he couldn't understand why the oil was still dripping when he went underneath to start but carried on anyway. Looked like a drowned rat when he crawled out from under.....Mike
