1720 manual states to change out the anti-freeze annually. Never done that before on ANY farm tractors gas or diesel. Just checked to ensure proper anti-freeze levels in the radiator. Give me your thoughts. How many here change out the anti-freeze yearly and WHY???

I like the idea mainly because its easy to remember.. Plus its not going to hurt anything to replace it too soon..

I don't change mine annually. I've changed once in 5 years. My manual calls for a 50-50 solution of Winter-Summer Permanent antifreeze. I tend to take the word "permanent" seriously, even though the manual also calls out for it to be changed annually.

I do not have my owner's manual with me, but mine says every 2 years.
Very easy to do, so I do it.

I do not change mine every year or even every other year. But I do have a tester where I take a sample and it shows that it is still 'suppose' to protect down to xx degrees or up to xxx degrees.

It certainly won't hurt to change often but it is a PITA to get rid of the old anti freeze, the transfer staion only takes it the first Saturday of the month and the line is REAAALLLLLYYYYYYYYYY long.

Antifreeze has "chemicals" that are "consumed" and probably don't show up as consumed with your freezing point/boiling point test.

So, what antifreeze do folks use? I am using the prestone yellow. Works in all engines.

I thought it supposed to be a antifreeze for Diesel engines, not just regualr antifreeze

Why would the mfg specify that the antifreeze be changed every year? If theres a good reason (other than to sell antifreeze or get work for the shop) then whats the result of not doing so? This would apply to any item that needed some sort of PM. I would talk to the service manager at your dealership about it.

I change every other year as the owners manual specified. Does your owners manual specify coolant conditioner with the antifreeze? Don't know when the manufacturers started to do this but my 1978 owners manual for my 2640 John Deere didn't mention the use of this but when I bought a 1990 4630 New Holland the owners manual specified to use coolant conditioner to prevent cavitation of the cylinder liners. Now I think most diesel manufacturers recommend this but the Massey Ferguson owners manual does not mention this, my guess this is because the Perkins engine uses dry sleeves instead of wet sleeves.
