I finally took some photos of the chainsaw holder that I have mounted to the FEL post on my new Montana. I fabricated it out of aluminum L channel and plastic from a kitchen cutting board. The saw is now always in an out of the way, easy to reach location. It does not rattle at all and the cutting teeth are well protected. Greg

Hello
The unit is mounted using (6) 2 1/2" x 1/8" stainless bolts which go through the aluminum, then plastic, and spacers on the back side. I drilled through the frame and put nuts on the back where I could access and tapped the ones I could not access. Greg

Nice Job! I like how the plastic protects the chain..........Now where did I put that cutting board?

Greg, that is a great idea !! I just was thinking about that today, but I think I will go 1 step further and add a stepdown slot because I have 2 saws I use at the same time(smaller). The other side will have a chain holder I saw in another thread. Thanks for posting pics!

Greg,

Very nice!

Question - do you find that your saw leaks the oil when in a vertical position like that? I have an ATV saw holder on mounted on my ROPS and recently my Husky started leaking all the oil when vertically stored in the rack - so I turned it to a horizontal position. Just curious if others have seen this problem.

Hi Mike
In answer to your question as to whether my chainsaw leaks oil when placed in the vertical holder... Nope. Not that I have ever noticed. No oil on the barn floor. Greg

Nice setup will be adding one to my tractor also. Mike sounds like you might need a new O-ring on your oil fill cap.

Nice idea. I have a question about it. It looks like the chainsaw is just sitting on the mount with the only thing holding it being the bar in the holder. If you hit a bump is there not the risk of the weight of the saw bending the bar. If that is the case I would think that a piece of industrial strength velcro wrapped through the handle around the FEL post would add a bit more holding power to the saw and be easy to use ?

There is no bottom to the holder so there is no weight on the bar. Secondly, if you look carefully at the photos, you will see a screw with a nylon spacer in the center/top of the holder. The sharp prongs on the front of saw (which keep it from slipping on the log) fit nicely around the screw and keep it from moving. Because it is a snug fit, the saw does not bounce a bit when hitting a bump. Greg

The oil does not leak from the cap - it seems to leak out of the bar, presumably where it oils the chain so whatever is supposed to prevent that must be broken. It definitely did not leak when new.

Mike check for dirt or wood chips where the oil comes out of the bar might have a small piece keeping it from closing all the way. Thats what happened on my stihl when it started leaking had a wood chip stuck in it.

That's what causes most saws to leak. dillo99, if you take the bar off you'll see where the oil transfers. Clean it up and you'll solve your problem...
