Cement Mixers / Concrete Mixers

I have a 3 point cement mixer... I went to a 3 point mixer from an electric model.

I can drive to the truck/water/gravel pile and load it. It mixes on the way to where I'm pouring, and the cylinder on the tractor/mixer dumps the mix where I want it, when I get back there...

I think mines a "Windmill" brand, it's been a good mixer and it mixes a batch quite fast.

A friend had one and it was horrible getting it hooked up, but even worse, we where never able to get it adjusted to tilt up very far, so we could only mix one sack at a time. Overall, it was such a horrible experience that when I wanted a cement mixer, I went with a stand alone, electric model. I can mix two 80 pound sacks, or three 60 pound sacks easily. There is some effort to roll it around the house, but for more remote projects, I either use the front loader or put it on my trailer. I can power it off of my small Honda generator all day long without refueling it.

Best of all, I don't have to remove my bush hog and install a 3 point mixer when I want to pour concrete. Over the weekend, I mixed 8 sacks for a small step without touching my tractor. It's just night and day easier and simpler to have a separate mixer and not use the tractor for this.

This is the one I have. I've had it a dozen years and expect to have it for decades more.

I borrowed a portable mixer from a friend that was too high for me to pour the bags of cement in. I'm 6' tall and the bags needed to be near shoulder height to load the mixer. I can't remember the brand of the mixer however it was a long, exhausting ordeal. Are all of them that high?

For small jobs I have an electric portable mixer, I move it near the job to minimize the distance I have to wheelbarrow the mud. For jobs that are a yard or more I use a company that has a mix on site truck that only charges for what you use. It's also nice because if you miscalculated the amount needed you aren't short or long on quantity.

I don't think mine would be quite that high even if it were turned directly upright. I would not want one that tall either. Although I generally shovel my dry mix into 5 gallon buckets for ease of loading the proper mix into the mixer quickly during larger pours. My mixer can keep 5 guys busy. Couple guys filling buckets, a guy transferring buckets to the mixer, another guy adding water and dumping once mixed, and another guy spreading and working the pour.

Yeah, this thing was tall. The drum was down as low as we could get it. If I ever break down and buy one, I'll need to stand next to it for fit.

From the pict. above of mine, you can see that mine goes plenty low...

I have not seen that brand. Looks a bit bigger than my Italian-made Mixer80.

Those who have never had the convenience of a PROPERLY WORKING PTO mixer are really
missing the advantages over standalone.

I have had mine for > 15y and yeah, it goes unused for long periods, but it has paid
for itself many many times over.

Initially, it was some work getting it tilting correctly, plus trimming the drive shaft to length.
The SA tilt cylinder was crap. I bent my tilt cyl 2 or 3 times before I tossed it. My biggest
and best mod was converting to hydraulic drive, and mounting it to the FEL.

Numerous posts on TBN.

I have an electric 2 wheel barrow style mixer, about $400+ at Home Depot. Great for post holes and small jobs, mixes 2 80# sacks/batch. I often have the forks and a pallet of sackcrete on the tractor raised high enough so that it is easy to transfer. Usually I don't have to roll the mixer very far to dump it but no need for a standard wheel barrow with this method.

I have had this mixer for about 8 years now very satisfied with it for the price.
