Cell Phone Service Being Dropped

Looking at a lot of the supporting documents regarding the discontinuation of 3g - it looks like while the 5 series phones could use LTE (4g) for data, they used a cell radio that used the 3g network for calls.

If you appreciated the size of the 5 series, take a look at the 11 and 12 mini line. They are nearly that small.
I have an SE 2020 that is exactly the same size as my 6S was.

I have a 6S. I bought my wife and kid SE2020's. Identical sizes. But the display is nicer, cameras are nicer, processors are faster, etc. Very happy with the SE2020's. I'll be getting myself one soon, and the 6S will become the house phone.

Ya, i remember my old radio shack phone and the huge battery. 5 watts…could cook a turkey.

unbelievable range. Analog. View attachment 725214

I had one like that in the early 90s. Calls outside your cell providers area were about $3 per minute plus a daily connection fee.

Each phone also came with a book that provide access numbers depending on where you were located. For someone to call you they had to know (or be able to guess) where you were and know the access number for that provider. If you answered the call from outside the area, you got hit with the per minute minute as well as the daily access charge.

I travelled a lot at night and on weekends in rural areas and only had the phone in case of emergencies. Didn’t have to use it very much.

Ah, yes the "good old days" of early analog cell service. Yes, now that you mention it, I remember trying to guess where someone was to try to be able to call them. I remember the high prices, and don't dare "roam", and permanent phone installations in our vehicles. I remember installing our mobile phone in our 1999 Yukon. When we sold the truck to our Daughter some years later we left the phone (nicely installed I might add) in the vehicle. I guess it went away when she got rid if it several years later. Back in those years towers could be many many miles apart in our rural areas here in Southwest Missouri. But with a good permanent mounted antenna in the center of the roof, you could hit them from great distances. And of course the high power of the phones themselves certainly helped too.

My house phone is attached to a cord which goes out to the pole then heads east. I wanted a local exchange and got tired of crappy coverage, or driving 1/2 of a mile in a cold truck to make a call. Now if I could just "spoof" that number so that my cell phone shows up on people's caller ID when making work related calls.

Must be an old one, mine is 3G and 4G.
Yeah, they finally wired my place to FIOS, so I don't need cell service. As long as I can reach one of my wifi repeaters, VOIP works great. US Cellular wants me to go 5G. Not this decade. That fiber optic cable is all the data I need.

Ill never see fiber here…..

Digital does not mean better or even clearer over analog. The fancy $6K digital hearing aids can't hold a candle to the $300 analogs for some hearing problems. Problem now is that analog hearing aids have been almost totally phased out.
