I recently found a Catepillar MT400B series tractor for sale locally and I think I can get quite a deal on it. Can anyone please give me some insight as to their thoughts on these tractors, including overall performance, cost of repairs, ability to find mechanics to work on these tractors, and ability to get parts for these tractors. Thanks everyone for your help!!

Anyone seen what a MT445B or 425B without an enclosed cab go for with under 500 hours?

Thanks

Warren

Look st the agco allis line and you'll see the same tractor.

CAT claims that you can buy and get these serviced at any CAT dealership. Good luck with that. I'd buy only if the local CAT dealership was clearly willing to provide parts and service. If that is the case, then they should be a fine tractor.

You don't have that problem at Cat dealerships.

I don't understand... just "Cat" vs. "CAT" or something else... the local Caterpillar dealer seems to do only big, big construction equipment.

Different dealers carry different equipment. I am sure that it depends on the area. If the dealer thinks that the wheeled tractors will sell , then they stock them. Any of them, can get parts.

I work at a Cat dealer. The 400 series Challengers are the same as the 5400 series Massey Fergusons. They are excellent tractors that will give years of dependable service. Parts will not be an issue because if the local Cat dealer sells the tractors then they will stock a large parts inventory and any part they don't have can be gotten overnight.

A local mowing contractor here is switching from JD to 400 series Challenger's. They currently have around 20 or so. Yes, I mean 20. Thats not a typo. They say their the best tractors they've ever used. thats coming from people that ran Ford then switched to JD and now to Challenger.
