My 2006 Arctic Cat 400 FIS has no drive, meaning engine runs, no unusual noises, no fluids leaking out but won't drive the wheels in any gear (Hi, Lo or Reverse). I am guessing belt or possibly clutch issues.

Any hints or suggestions before I rip it apart would be greatly appreciated.

yup you could have blew a belt or if it's like the rhino that has rollers if they get dirty and stick you don't move.i seen some atv's where the plastic roller sleaves had got hot and melted and stuck.take off the belt cover and take a look.if the belt is still there in one piece rev up the engine to see if the secondary clutch os opening and closing.

It is the belt, completely destroyed. Also, some small rollers adrift in the front hub. Not sure but based on parts list diagram, does not look like any springs with this hub so can I just take off outer face and reassemble rollers into thier normal position?

now that you found the destroyed belt and rollers you might wanna check you motor mounts because most times they are the reason for the belts to blow up.if the engine becomes just a bit out of line with the clutch the first thing to go is the belt.now being you have a 4 wheeler i don't know if the two are seperated so this might not be the case but on utv's they are seperated and when the mounts go the belt is soon to follow.

after looking at you pic the belt could be what holds the pressure on the clucth rollers so you might get lucky and just pop it off and reinstall them with the new belt.and scrap the motor mount idea i see it's all in one.something else to think of do you let the bike idol alot /if so that could be what destroyed the belt .if it's like a polaris razor the belt is always turning no mater what and if you idol it will burn a smooth spot on the belt and even destroy it so it's best that if your not riding shut the engine off and don't just let it sit there idoling.just a few thought for you to think of.take it back the design of the polairs is to always be turning the clutch and the belt will not turn til reved up thats what causes the burn up on the belt .and not from the belt always turning sorry.oh another thing get some break cleaner and clean that clutch up good it looks a bit dirty and i don't seem to see any grease does the cats take grease on their rollers?if so repack it with grease after cleaning it.thats it ..i think.lol

Thanks, again.

The old belt was original (bought bike new in 2006 and has 8,088km on it) and dealer seemed surprised it lasted this long considering it is mainly used for work taking firewood out of bush. The belt was completely destroyed, no piece was longer than 2" and a real brids nest of string like stuff was wrapped around the clutch. Had a big job cleaning up the whole issue.

I now have got the new belt on and yes, it is a dry clutch system. The local CAT dealer was very helpful over the phone. The front hub does come off easily. They recommended that I take the entire front hub off, place on desk, lift off top and re-install rollers then put top back on and re-install as one whole unit. Worked very well. I tested after re-assy and all is well.

Thanks, will need to do my 2003 Cat 500 next. Also has original belt so probably in need of attention too.
