We have a cat and I know it is just a matter of time before this cat has a run in with a good size snake here in the mountains. The cat has already killed a couple of small snakes. I was wondering what others have experienced? How big of a snake can this cat take on and win? Will the cat avoid a large snake or fight it?

I've heard some stories in the past about cats underestimating snakes, so I'd be inclined to believe that the cat will take it on.

We have the same problem with the dogs. We often find a snake chewed in half. One dog was bitten above the eye a couple of weeks ago and it bled like a stuck pig. Fortunately it was a non venemous snake, but we are dreading the day when they pick on the wrong snake. Always have your vet number handy.
Actually was this dog shown.

Cats do a pretty good job avoiding being bitten by snakes. Dogs, not so much because they can't jump like cats.

We have a Bengal that catches snakes all the time. He even kills rattlers up to about 3 feet. I don't know how he does it but he is fast.

One of the dogs has been bit three times by rattlers I took him to the vet the first time $500 for antivenom. The last time I just gave him some anti biotics and he was fine the next day.

They must build up some type of imunity.

I know cats are tough and formidable but there a easy meal for a coyote I've lost tons of them in Illinois I'll usually find what's left which isn't much. The only hope a cats got is a tree

Not a lot you can do for outside cats it seems, they are usually hunting for a meal or a play toy. Mine anyway, we had a calico cat female that was about as mean as a bobcat. we were kids then and this cat jumped off a 2nd story porch onto the back of a full grown German Shepard. She landed on it's head and had all for sets of claws buried and was chewing off an ear riding that dog out of HER yard. She hopped off right at the edge of the yard landed on all fours all fluffed up like a Halloween Cat :D :) Our neighbor had weener dogs she loved to torment them things almost as much as my brother and I hated the yappy things. Later I had a orange cat (Garfield) was 23 lbs and I swear was mixed with a Lynx or Bobcat for real. He would stretch out across the back window on the package tray of my car pushed fronts and back feet against the sides. Short stubby tale too. He would go hunting with us like a dog. long trips I would have to carry him back some days worse than hauling back a dear. sling him over my back wrap him around my neck like a stole... worked well in winter to keep the neck warm ;) He would climb up after coon in trees, (had to as pets too that he loved to fight with.) Both cats ended up hunting cars and loosing those matches...

Most recent cat was left at the farm when I bought it. was basically wild girl and small on the cat size scale. She must have gotten attacked more than once by the Red Tail hawks or an Owl as she spent very little time in open lawn. great little mouser though she eventually disappeared, found her collar but not her. She became a little luvebug cat followed me around meowing like crazy. wanted held and could purr louder than any of the others. Was cute to watch her dart from tree to tree following me across the yard kept her eyes and head on a swivel looking up so had to been a big bird tried to get her at some point. She would stay under foot out in the open but in the garden with MOM she would loosen up and roll around a lot (3 feet from mom that is.;))
