Cat D4G LGP, good choice?

I am in the market for a small dozer for road work, erosion control , brush clearing and maintaining creek crossings on our place, not commercial work. When everyone seems to be going to mulchers, I'm looking at a dozer...
I have found a D4G with cab and air, sweeps, window guards, wide tracks and a 5 tooth ripper. It has 3500hrs on it. Any feed back would be appreciated. Cost is 55k.

If you are mostly operating on firm ground, the LGP, low ground pressure model (wide tracks) is kind of a waste and more expensive to replace. Other than that, or finding a std. u/c machine, it should serve you well. Oh, we'll need some pics you know.:thumbsup:

LGP is popular down here. After a lot of rain, the bottom falls out....southeast Texas. Thanks for your feed back and I'll try and load some pics

I did just that with an older CAT D3 and enjoyed every minute of the 17 years I owned it.

Ran out of things to do and reluctantly sold it for 2k less than I paid for it.

A good used Dozer in the smaller sizes are hard to come by around here.

Originally, I had planned to rent which wouldn't have worked for me... dozer work is playtime that had to be scheduled around the demands of work and when soil conditions were optimal...

I may be talkin' out of school here...But, I'd check out the under carriage real good. The sprocket in the picture looks to be pretty sharp. Rails & pins probably won't look much better. This is something that would probably have to be replaced right a way.
There's not much worse than having to wrestle the tracks back on a machine twice a day, especially one that you've just paid $55K for.
Good luck, used equipment is a gamble at best. You win some you loose some. Here's to hoping that you win, and if you loose, not too bad. :drink:

I agree the sprocket looks worn. Thank for your input.
A full track job is not cheep. I really want a machine with 2000hrs, but this one popped up in my area set up like I want it.
At 2000 hrs there is a whole lot less worn out. I figured I could run it at least 1500hrs as is and do a full aftermarket track job.

Yes, I had a JD 650 in 1994, new. I don't want to buy new again so I'm looking at used. It will be for weekend work only.
