I can get a Woods B106 rotary mower. It is a Cat 2 set up. My Mahindra 4510 is a 45 horsepower Cat 1 tractor. I know the pins can be switched to go to Cat 1 but will the pto shaft be different and will the spacing be too wide for my Cat 1 3point attachment points. Any thoughts or is it just easier all around to get a Cat 1?

look at:

pin spacing: can the pins be turned in, and fit?

weight: can the tractor handle the weight.

pto: is it 6 spline 1 3/8" or? ( and 540 vs 1000 )?

Most CAT 1 tractors have lower lift arms that can be spread enough to hook up to a CAT 2 implement with the correct CAT 1 pins installed. Measure how wide you can spread the lower arms on your tractor. 32" is supposed to be the CAT 2 standard. Now, with a Pat's Quick Connect the lower arms don't have to be spread nearly that wide.

99% of the time the PTO will match just fine. You may have to cut down the shaft, but that is easy. As Soundguy wrote, the PTO speed and number of splines should be checked for a match before purchasing.

The minimum engine requirement for CAT 2 equipment is listed at 40 HP so you are near the lower limit.

If it is a good price, CAT 2 equipment is usually built to be tougher so if you need something heavy duty then it may fit the bill.
