Castrol AgriMPplus 20w40 OZ Hydraulic and Engine?

I have read the literature on this oil from Castrol. Its 20w40. They suggest that this oil can be used for the hydraulics as well as the main engine oil.
Is this correct? I Believe a more suitable oil is 15W40 like Shell R4X. If this Castrol oil can be used as both as a engine and hydraulic oil it will make life easy.
I will be draining and flushing my 135 and replacing all the filters and oils. Theres a lot of specials going on the 20 litre drums of this oil at the moment in my area.

The smartest solution would be to check the manual. HST's can be fairly finicky, pumps are the next most finicky part. Cylinders probably don't care much at all as long as it's clean.

Most oil is generally pretty similar though, just different additives that make a bit of difference. Those additives can make a big difference at times, like when there are wet clutches, brakes or a HST. My Kubota says either use Kubota UDT or Super UDT (hydraulic oil) or 80w90 gear oil in the front axle. A great number of hydraulic systems specify engine oil for use in the hydraulic system. I couldn't name any offhand, but I recall some skidsteers at least. I'd wager you'd be better off with regularly chaining the wrong oil than leaving the right oil in for extended durations under most circumstances. You'd probably be safe, but I always stick with OEM recommendations.

Diesel or gas? Your Massey 135 has a gear transmission which gives you lots of options on the transmission fluid. When you say hydraulics, are you referring to the 3 pt hitch hydraulics or a separately pumped hydraulic system? Might be the same answer, but we could use more information. Those old Massey 135s are some of the best old iron out there.

It's what is commonly known, at least in Europe, as an STOU (Super Tractor Oil Universal). These products can be, and indeed are, used in Engine, transmission, and hydraulic applications. However you should always check that the manufacturer recommends this type of product and that the specific brand carries the appropriate approvals for your application.
