case 450 d0zer 1943
Hi have case 450 d dozer that will not drive, changed all transmission oil filter and checked charge pump filter and washed it. Oil apears to have lots of AIR in transmission. Toque compression gauge reads up to 25 and 50. Transmission gauge is about 150 checked for possible air leaks can,t find any. Any advice please.

Hi Kevphi. Welcome to the club. I am experiencing the same problem. My research indicates that it could be the rubber hose that develops a crack (allowing air to enter the system) down near the transmission housing or potenitally a worn charge pump, or the shaft seal on the charge pump. Like a rookie, I removed my charge pump thinking I would get a rebuild kit and forgot about the bottom hose shank. Next week I am going to remove the rubber hose section and replace. I might also replace the charge pump shaft seal and any associated O-rings before I spring for a new reman. unit at $265. Let me know how it goes and I will do the same.

When you say 150 are you talking about the pressure gauge on your dash? If so I think that's the output of your charge pump. I think mine reads 175. When my charge pump got worn I would have to park the dozer facing downhill. If I didn't that gauge would read zero and it wouldn't move until I used the backhoe to lift up the rear.

Hi crazyal, trying to work out this computer thing easier to work on old stuff. It's the tranmissiom gauge that reads 150, and the toque converter gauge reads 25 and the temp gauge stays in the green. When engine is stoping toque converter maks a strange noise.

Does the floorboard lift up, it does on mine. You can see the driveshaft. I'm not sure if the newer 450's (mine is a 450b) are different but on mine the torque converter is mounted to the back of the engine but the high/ neutral/ low reverse box is under the seat with the driveshaft connecting them. I would think a simple check would be to see if the driveshaft is spinning when you try to move. If it stops turning then I would think you have a torque converter problem. My dozed doesn't have a torque converter gauge.
