Case/ Int 8420 Baler

Just finished baling with my new used baler. Baler makes a 4 X 4 bale which perfect for my litte Kubota. Had some problems getting the bale to start, so I've order new belts, the old ones are pretty slick so I'm thinking thats my problem. Had some problems with the hydraulic tie and knife rod...think it was from lack of use more than anything else. Other than that I'm pretty happy with how its performed so far.

There are a couple farms around here that use the small 4x4s and I often wondered how much they weight. My neighbor has a 4x5 and I think they come out about 500# or so. I guess though he could make 4x4s by just not filling up the chamber though.

So, how does the tie work...you actuate it or is automatic? Im not familar w/ your baler...is it an old mdl or newer?

I'm not sure how much they weight, might take one to work and weight it on the truck scales. The hydraulic tie works good, I think it just sit too long and needed some action on the cutting linkage. I'm really glad I found this baler, used to have a #3 mf square baler. It was wore smack out, lots of trouble with knotters and the guides in the bale chamber where in bad shape. It would catch on fire if you got to running too good. Guess there was a good side to all that stopping and working on the knotter...lol. I finished up the last bale this morning and the neighbor across the way stopped by. Said he wanted to buy some, didn't give him a price yet. May wait until the fall to see what kind of rain we get this summer.

I think you'll be pleased with it. I've been running one for a long time. That size bale fits the application here real well. The 8420 is the same baler as the small Hesston & New Idea. I don't remember the #'s on those right off. Have it written down somewhere.
You may find by using a smaller windrow your bale will start better and you can run faster. I know it may mean more trips, but it sure beats a bad clog on a real hot day. I pull with a Kubota also.

I'm using a L3010 Kubota and it handled it great...actually a lot easier than the old square baler I used to use. But it was pretty much wore out. Have you ever replace the forming belts on you baler? I think it will make a big difference in getting the bale rolling...has too, those belts are pretty slick.

I have mostly hilly ground and its does a great job. I used an old MF #3 baler last year and it was wore out. The square baler really pulled hard. I have hydraulic tie on the round baler and it works great. I only have one remote on my tractor so I had to run the tie hoses to my front end loader ports. But I was really surprised how well that little tractor works with that baler. I thought it would be a lot more work than the square baler. But I'm really happy with both pieces of equipment.

Good to know. I have horse owners that would take small round bales if they could not get squares or could get rounds at a better price . . . especially if they could roll them around their barn or off their truck. This baler seems like an option for my 45hp tractor. Wanted to make sure I could "pull" it though. Used prices seem decent too.

Steveky, Yes I have replaced belts on the baler. I have replaced one bearing, and several other misc. items over the last 14 years. It's a good little baler. Easy to work on and just keeps getting up if you understand it's limits and stay within those boundries.
Mark.R, If your tractor is a 45 pto you should handle it with no problems.

Sounds like a nice little unit. My tractor is 45gross/36pto.
