case ih 1130 pto problems

I just bought an 1130 case ih with hydrostatic trans at an auction. They said that the pto doesn't work and it makes a gear grinding sound when running but when i push in the clutch it doesn't make the noise. I got it at a good price so it is well worth fixing. Does any one have an idea as to what the problem is? The po was running a 5' brush hog and a 6' finish mower with it which probably caused the problem. There is a service manual on Ebay on a cd for a cub cadet 7232. Would this be the same tractor? Who has the cheapest service manual for this tractor? thanks in advance, saturn

I had a noise etc with my PTO also. Check my thread just below this titled "shrapnel in gear case". Tractors are vastly different....but it can give you some pointers maybe

Thanks for the reply pedalstomper i figured that it will have to come apart to fix it but i have to put put aside for now since i am in middle of other projects. It doesn't look all that bad to fix. It seems like a nice tractor.

The problem with mine was that it wasn't adjusted correctly and the gears were only riding on about 1/4 of the length of the teeth. Premature wear caused the failure. Make sure that you pull a bit more apart than you think that you need to in order to get any and all metal shavings out.
