Case 885XL PTO Clutch...

Good Morning, I need to replace the PTO clutch on my 1989 885XL, I'm getting conflicting advice from people, some say I need to split the tractor, others say I don't.

If it's a split job I will wait till winter, if I can do it in a few hours I will do it now, any advice would be very gratefully received

4x4 ? Remove propshaft.......drain transmition lub........remove transferbox........look inside and you will see PTO pack and to remove this you will have to ........knock out rollpin at PTO pack.......then loosen and remove 3 bolts (9/16 wrench) at the back off the tractor at the PTO shaft and pull the PTO shaft out at the back ........and now you can remove the pack. To open the pack you need 3 G-clamps........press down on the 6 springs to release the c-clip and remove the c- clip..............check the pack and shaft for its timing !

Fantastic, thank you Trekkers, so no need to split the tractor, just a little bit of rollpin manipulation,shaft pulling and drop the pack out, just worried about your "check the pack and shaft for its timing" part of your answer, would you be kind and enlarge on that?

It is a 4x4, so the clutch pack will be right above the transfer box?

Please get back to me...

Rollpin go offset thru pack and shaftsplines can fit everywhere so its importend to line up the holes before installing the rollpin . If the hole in te pack is vertical then the slot in the shaft must allso be vertical..........then check if the hole is an O AND NOT A FLAT O..........FLAT O will indicat to you that the rollpin can not go thru !
PTO pack will be right above the transferbox !
Please fit all the plates in the kit !
