Case 885 /w cab and 2555 loader - where is serial number and VIN?

I have recently purchased a Case IH 885 with cab that has a Case 2555 loader on it. I went looking for the VIN/Serial number so that I could order some parts. However, I have not been able to locate the VIN plate. I think its located behind the loader frame that is bolted to the tractor on the right hand side. I really don't want to take the loader and frame off just to get a VIN or even a year model. Is there some other way to identify the VIN / Serial number / year of a tractor? Can you look up a VIN serial number for the tractor based on manufacturing records cross referencing for example a serial number on some component such as the cab or motor? Are there specific changes that occurred at certain serial numbers that can be used to at least back into a serial number range?
