I just purchased a 1971 Case 580CK Backhoe. It has a working tach with 1100 hours showing. The story is that the seller's grandfather bought it new, and when grandpa died, it sat until now (several years at least) The machine starts and runs nice. The loader and hydraulics work, after I added about five gallons of fluid. The big problem is...It won't move either forward or reverse. The clutch pressure gauge on the dash shows good pressure until I move the shuttle to either forward or reverse, then drops significantly. Any recommendations on where to start would be appreciated. By the way, Not bad for 800 bucks!

Hello Arbo , Wow did you ever get a deal on your backhoe Sweet. Even if it did not run or move that is still a great price. From what I hear for the transmission to not pull is what they say normal for these. Every where I read they say they have to run for ten minutes or more to warm up the transmission. My 1974 580 B shuttle shift does the same thing. I keep both shifters in neutral and the trany pressure just does make the green zone then in ten minutes or so at idle I put them both in gear and when it is warmed up enough it will with a two second delay the trany gauge goes just under the green section then you will feel transmission take hold and she wants to go now if you give it the throttle If it is warmed up enough it should pick up speed instanly if given more throttle with no drag or slippage. . I try not to ever force it to go I always try to wait in fear of hurting something. Sometimes if I try it before it is totally warmed up I drop it in gear and she does not have that grab feeling but she just kind of moves slowly forward even when I give it more throttle she just seems to crawl along because she is not warmed up enough so I let it heat up 5 more minutes or so
