I have a case 310 g bulldozer and I am in the process of replacing the mainshaft and bearings in the transmission. The mainshaft is the very top one that the driveshaft connects to. The problem I am having is that when I pulled the shaft out of the transmission the gears fell and Im not sure which way they go back in. I do have a parts manual for my dozer and do see the order that these gears and spacers go in. Im not sure which way the gears face as all 3 of my gears have collars on them. The only gear in the parts manual with a collar showing on it is the middle of the three gears and it faces the front of the dozer. Does this mean that if I cant see the collars on the other 2 gears that they must face away or to the rear? Any help would be appreciated. I thought when I pulled the shaft all the collars were to the front but now Im second guessing myself as I put the shaft in once and Ill I had was 2nd and reverse gears. Now I have the shaft and gears removed again.
