The needlebearing inside the reversegear packed up ..replaced it with a fosphorbronze bush is the answer . That gear is the first one ...topshaft ad you remove the shiftcover

It's not a Deutz diesel, but an SLH diesel, they are completely different from Deutz diesels...

But both, if taken care of, are long lasting engines that are quite good on fuel consumption.
