MF 135
Newbie here! I have an early 70's MF 135 gas engine and have run into a road block. While cold or sometimes running at idle speed my 135 will start to choke down, sounds like its running out of fuel but I can pull out the choke and limp it back to the shop. I've rebuilt the carb, new fuel filter, carb bowl is clean, its getting plenty of fuel. What next? A new carb cost around 260, any suggestions?

You could have junk in the fuel tank, Remove the fuel line from the carb and run some fuel into a large canning jar. You should see if anything is floating in your fuel.

If it acts like it is running out of fuel at higher speeds I've found a blocked fuel tank/cap vent to be the problem... doesn't sound like what you are experiencing.

I've had a lot of fuel issues with older equipment with reformulated fuels and that is just about all that is available here...

One was so bad I had to pull the tank to clean it and no more problems...
