I have about 20 acres of overgown pasture that has been overtaken by thorny locust. Size range from 2"-6" at the base. I am thinking to buy a saw or clippers to attach to my Case skid steer. Any advice would be appreciated.

How are you going to deal with the locust suckers that come up from the stumps. I have never used them but the clippers look good. I put in black locust because the ag dept said bees like them. I hate the locust ,I cut them down and they reppear in 100's.

Well, I have been cutting them down with a chainsaw and using the Toradon to kill the stumps. Brutal job.
I will be using the land as hay/pasture so if i cut the trees at ground level, I should be ok.

I have never ran a shear, but have been around quite a few. I can speak a bit about the saw as I have had one for about 5 years and like it. My skid steer is a older Case 1845C with Hiflo hydraulics. (30GPM at 2350PSI) If your trees are small (under 10 inches), I think you would really like a saw. My saw has a 32" blade which will allow it to cut a 14 to 15" tree in one pass. It will cut larger by working both sides of the tree. I feel the larger the tree the less advantage the saw has as shear cyling time is where the saw has the advantage. I would be happy to answer any questions you might have about my saw. My original reason for the saw was econmics -cheaper.

Anyone know where to buy a heavy duty carbide tip saw that will fit on the front of my case?
Thanks. :)

My saw was made by the gentleman listed below. My saw is approximately 5 years old and has been reliable. Original cost was $3000. I have done some upgrades such as a new blade with 2 more inches of radius and 4 more teeth for a total of 12 teeth. The teeth are Pengo teeth original made for a rock auger. The teeth are about $20 a pop. I don't know your location or if Mr. Hicks ships his saws. I live within 60 miles and he has been very helpful. My skidsteer is a Case 1845C 60 HP with hiflo hydraulics. It runs 30 GPM at 2350 PSI. I don't know what capacity is required to operate the saw but I am sure Mr. Hicks can supply that info. My machine handles the saw fairly well, but will overheat in the hot summer time. The overheating has not been a problem since I work by myself most of the time and I just pile the trees to let it cool down. I think with the upgrades the current model saw is now around $5000. The upgrades are a little more lenth from the skidder to the saw which allows to get to the base of trees with low hanging limbs. Also the larger blade with 4 more teeth as iterated above. I cut in lots of rock and the teeth hold up suprisingly well. One thing this saw will do better than cutting trees is winding up unseen barbwire. I primarily cut osage orange/hedge and thorny locust. I will be happy to supply more info, if needed.

Thank you. I talked to Leroy Hicks. Seems like a great guy. Saws are now 5500.00 plus 500 for the brush guard. I may give one a try. Thanks again.
