I think I need to put a carb kit on my MF135.. I took off the carb and found an electrical wire. What is that for? Did MF use the same Zenith carbs on the Perkins 3 cyl. I think Tractor Supply has the kits. Thanks
Sounds like two problems. You stated you took off the carb and found a wire. Explain. To lookup your carb. Go to www.agcopartsbook.com Are you stating you have a 3 cylinder gas Perkins engine?
I'm going to guess the wire goes to a fuel shut-off solenoid for the main jet. When energized the solenoid pulls a needle back and allows fuel to flow through the main jet. If the solenoid stops working it doesn't allow fuel to flow so guys normally remove them and put a small 1/8th inch plug in it's place. My Freguson has a 4-cylinder Perkins, this is the carb after I rebuilt it. I found a float for it on ebay just by looking at a picture.
Mine is a 3 cyl. gas Perkins. The fuel shut off explanations sounds right. I just couldn't figure out why it was there. I will get a carb kit but was just wondering if the same carb was used on most models. TSC is 25 miles away and wanted to get the right thing.
My advice is not to throw any of the old carburetor parts away. If your old carb was made in the US, the old parts may still be better than new Chinese parts. Chinese gaskets seem to be ok, but the float needle and seat assemblies tend to be junk, and the fuel shutoff/sediment bowls made in China are often so bad that they have no use , except as a paper weight. If you can find new old stock parts online, grab them !
