Carb problem

Hi guys , I had the carb off my tractor and now that I've reinstalled it the tractor runs fine until I put the air filter on and then it starts to run like crap and black smoke comes out the exhaust what could be going on ? I was thinking maybe I'm sucking air in through a gas line .

Sounds like it is running too rich so when you put the air filter back on, you are resticting the air even more causing the engine to run even richer. Try turning the mixture screw in to make the engine run leaner.

Is the air filter plugged up. sometimes an air filter may look almost brand new and be clogged.

yep.. black smoke is rich.. .. that means too much fuel to air ratio.. if not too much fuel with no air cleaner.. but black with air cleaner.. air cleaner is restricted..
