3 people injured in Highway 72 accident

MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Three people were injured in an traffic accident involving a tractor and a car.

Officials say it happened around 5 p.m. Thursday on Highway 72 near Brownsboro Road.

A car rear-ended the John Deere tractor knocking one of the passengers off.

HEMSI Director Don Webster says Raymond Whittacker was flown to Huntsville Hospital with critical injuries. His passenger Jackie Parsons and the driver of the car, Mallory Hancock both suffered minor injuries.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

"...knocking one of the passengers off"??? I don't get that. Does that mean there were passengers on the tractor? Or, were there passengers ON (rather than IN) the car?

The report seems to indicate that the driver of the tractor is in critical condition and that the passenger on the tractor and the driver of the car only suffered minor injuries. It is apparent, by reviewing the report, that there was indeed, a passenger on the tractor.

Unfortunately, the tractor drive has died. And apparently there was a passenger on the tractor. I had figured this was a mistake due to sloppy journalism which seems to be the norm nowadays, but was mistaken:
