Trying to get my power steering cylinder off the Kubota BX22 to get it rebuilt. Followed the instructions on the BX22 WSM. Everything is unhooked and unbolted. removed the cotter pins and the slotted nuts on the tie rod ends but the tie rod won't come out of the hub unit. Is there a trick to remove it. The directions simply say "remove steering cylinder with tie-rod".

Pickle fork maybe?

Pickle fork maybe?

A pickle fork will get the job done, but will generally damage the rubber boot.
I find using two hammers usually gets the job done. Place the first hammer against the side of the lug that holds the tie rod end. Using the second hammer, sharply strike the lug, directly opposite the first hammer's location. This action should pop the tie rod end out of the lug.

Puematic hammer gets them off. I remove the nut, put it back on backwards, screwed it on till the nut was flush with the bolt (prvents damage to threads) and one sqeeze of the trigger...success!!

Just unscrew the tie rods from the steering cylinder a lot faster. They have to come off anyway.
