Can\'t get MMM to run...help!

New 4410, e-hydro

Removed 72"mmm over weekend and put back on to mow today

Hooked it up right (or so I think)

When I power up the PTO it bogs down and stalls (nearly immediately)

when I remove the pto shaft that attaches the mower to the tractor, the unit on the tractor will spin. This suggests the problem is between the pto shaft and the mower.

Any ideas?

Hurry (I was to mow tonite)

With the tractor off---When the PTO shaft is detatched from the tractor's PTO stub, can you rotate it by hand turning the blades?

Re: Can\'t get MMM to run...help!

ebeb,

Did you try rotating the spindles on the MMM by hand? Disconnect PTO from tractor. Remove the top covers from the MMM (1 or both) and try turning the spindles by pulling on the belt, etc. CAREFUL not to pinch your fingers!. You should be able to turn the spindles. Look for any thing that may have gotten in the area of the pulleys and belt that could be jamming the works. It doesn't take much. You can also try reaching in from the chute and try turning the blades by hand. TRACTOR OFF! Look under the deck for anything that might have jammed between the deck and the blades.

Good Luck,

Re: Can\'t get MMM to run...help!

You guys are good...as usual.

After I got the pto to spin on the tractor, I figured you were right that the problem was with the MMM.

Took off both side covers and couldnt get the spindles or belt to budge. Hand turned the blades and aha!!!, they were jammed against the frame of the deck.

Then I remembered...on my first day i was digging some stumps and banged the mmm into a little stump I didnt see (not much clearance with the decked pulled up). Must have bent the frame in the process.

Took the deck off, stood it up on end, banged the bend piece back to square...presto, fixed MMM.

Thanks again for the help.

Of course, it is now dark and raining, mowing will have to wait for another day.

(good thing these things happen when my dealer is closed, would have cried wolf a couple times by now)

Re: Can\'t get MMM to run...help!

That must have been one heck of a stump to bend the deck! We have hit more than a couple stumps and big logs with the same 72'' mid mount on the 970 and have yet to break the deck.

Re: Can\'t get MMM to run...help!

I actually drove over it and got it caught on the back of the deck (the interior section that covers the back of the blade).

I was pushing with the bucket, probably had the front tires up in the air a bit, and got the stump under me (maybe an 8" stump).

It didn't bend the exterior frame, it was the interior half moon thing (not as thick of steel).

Lesson learned (take off deck before bumping around where I need some real clearance.

thanks again

Ah ok that makes more sense. That is quite a bit weaker that the shell of the deck.
