canopy

i am in the process of building a canopy. it is aluminum.
all of the factory ones i have seen, do not go back much
farther than the rops. what happens if you get into a rain storm?
the one i am building will go back beyond the rops. i have not
been able to figure out how much to extend it. the actual canopy
is 6ft long, and 4ft wide. well not that wide, i have a rain drip edge
bent on both sides, so it is less than 48inches wide. i thought about
18inches in back of the rops, and 54inches in front. or 24inches in
back of the rops, and 48inches in front. have not made up my mind.
has anybody made their own, and done anything like this? would like
hear comments. thanks.

The only problem I can see is if you ever plan on attaching a backhoe to your tractor. Other then that, the rear extension will probably give additional rain and sun protection as well as balancing the assembly slightly.

I suppose he could always cut off all or part of the overhang if/when he got a backhoe... Another thought would be to bend the back overhang down along the back of the ROPS. He could clear the backhoe, and still have some protection from the rain coming in through the back (though not as much as with the overhang, I would guess). In this case, you'd just want to make sure it didn't turn into a head banger.
