Canopy Canopy lights & horn installation TC-40D

I wanted to add additional lighting to remove the shadows cast from the FEL when using the stock headlights at night. And since I was going to be getting into the electrical system anyway I decided to add a set of horns at the same time, sort of like killing 2 birds with one stone. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif The project turned out very nice. Good morning!

Great work, PineRidge...I was just hauling some trash lumber from the barn to a burn pile last night and thinking about this very project.

It's a clean installation, looks very good. I can imagine it's so much easier to maneuver with the lighting up high like that.....

Choreboy having the light source from above makes the difference between night and day. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Plus the light spillover does a nice job of lighting the bucket level indicator for me as well. If these work out for me I have already pre-wired the circuits to add rear lights for working with the backhoe or snowblower as well.

Do you have heavier alternator on your 40?

I think it comes with 35A but I see some folks have stepped up to 55A.

I'm curious if my original alternator will support 2-4 more lamps

Choreboy I was told that the TC-40D comes equipped with a 40 amp alternator. With my setup you don't need to run both sets of lights at the same time. For mowing without the FEL attached I will be using the stock lighting, and for FEL work I will be using the overhead lighting. So, it really shouldn't tax the stock alternator at all.

Also, did you wire up the flashers to work on your plow lights? That would be cool.

To answer the question about the alternator providing enough juice, I ran a total of 9 lights on my 33D this winter (the front 4, the 4 on my ROPS and the one work light on the back) with nary a problem.

Kris I only opted to hook up the running lights and headlamps. Maybe the turn signals will get wired when I have a bit more idle time. Right now my Internet business is a bit hectic. (not complaining though) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nice job and great idea. Sure is a nice looking canopy also. What brand is it? Did it come with the tractor or did you add it on after.

Pineridge told me in a previous post that his canopy was made by Firebird Fiberglass. It does look cool and I will have to have one when I get some more obstacles out of my way.
