I was quoted a "preliminary" price in June of 2010 of $15,200, for the tractor alone, at one particular dealer. The loader was quoted at $3200, for a total of $18,400.
Now when I say "preliminary", this was a quote that didn't really get down to the short strokes, meaning once the actual contract was written, there may have been the usual additional charges for freight/set-up, or whatever other charges that particular dealer would add. I never got that far. It's funny, some people really get taken in, thinking what comes out of a salesman's mouth is what the final tally will show. Usually it's not.
I did buy a 2520, but not from that dealer, but it's really impossible to tell you how the price actually finalized. I had a trade-in, and that first dealer was $3500 short on the trade in price vs the dealer where I actually ended up buying. Even though the first dealer appeared to have a better price on the initial quote, when it came down to it, he was not even close to what I ended up with, once you considered the trade. Also, the dealer I actually bought from didn't try to add one dime to the price at contract time. What he quoted, was what I paid. I like that way of dealing, I hate it when they try the "smoke and mirror" trick on you.
The other thing making it difficult to compare to your price was that I included in my deal, a number of extras, that in order to lump everything into the JD credit deal, the values of the "Add-ons" had to be shown in, and part of, the loader and mower values, so I can't give you the actual contract price of the loader by itself.
I'm in Ontario, and I don't know if there would be any provincial differences in JD pricing, so again it's difficult to compare.
I don't know if JD's prices have increased since I bought, but just looking at your quote of $20,000, it would seem like there would be some wiggle room in it, depending upon of course what is included in that price, and if you have no trade-in. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples.
Like I said, I'll bet that $18,400 price I was quoted would have ended up higher, somehow, I had the feeling the practice at that dealership was to try and "lowball" people on the initial contact, and then once they get the customer "hot to trot" so to speak, the real prices would emerge, for the "Out the door" price.
