I have seen posts referring to widening the stance of the tractor by making the axles wider. Is this an adjustment on the tractor that is easily done or what are they referring to ?

Start with a 2wd wide front end and look for bolts. Those are the only ones you can do it on without a welder and a knack for inventing /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Depending on the rim, you can widen out your rear (did that sound right??) by flipping the wheels convex to concave. Remember tread though, you have to swap sides to keep the tread direction correct. Some of the rims have a place where you can flip the rim after you have flipped the wheel and get pretty wide.

actually, any tractor, 2 wd or 4wd can be widened as long as they have bar axles!!

Take care

Easily done on some, harder to do on some, and impossible to do on others; i.e., some tractors are designed so they can be changed and some are not.

I have a Mahindra 2810 HST and I can't.
I also have a Kioti DK40 and I can.

Dirtwisperer, glancing through my manual, which covers the Kubota Grand L Series models 3130 thru 5030, it states:

Two wheel drive models - you can adjust the front axle out about 12".

Four wheel drive models - the front wheels/axle cannot be adjusted.

The rear wheels - on the two and four wheel drive models - can be adjusted by changing the position of the rim and/or disk (about 12") also.

As you can see, Bird again has the correct information.

This forum keeps my manual from gathering dust and I learn a lot also. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Then for those that can not be adjusted or are already at max one can use axle extensions (see www.unverferth.com fairly pricy though) or wheel spacers. A number of threads have appeared on this topic.

And I have a Kioti CK20 which can be widened a little only if using AG tires. The turfs and Industrial tires are already so wide, there's no more room for widening.
On some tractors, you can widen them out without swapping sides as they have a design that "spins" out keeping the tire tread going in the proper direction. Generally, you'll get the widest stance by swapping sides on those tractors where fenders are designed to handle this. John

2wd front axles that are bar or pipe can generally be widened. In some cases front and rear tires can be dished out. And in very limited cases, the rear axle splines protrude out the hubs of the rear wheels.. letting you slide and position that rear wheel anywhere onthe axle spline you want. Lots of larger ag tractors are like that as well as many of the older JD's
