Can you use a driveway sealer on asphalt shingles?

I have a barn that has shingles on that are ok, but have developed a few leaks. when I had the driveway resealed at my last place the guy that did it told me he had just finished doing a roof. I want to have the roof black in colour to match everything else anyway. So, has anybody ever done this? Is it a bad idea and if so why. I want to replace the roof of the barn with steel to match everything else, just not in the budget yet. The roof is a 4/12 pitch in case that makes a difference. So?? comments, criticisms, questions? Interested to hear if anybody has really done this. Thanks

I think Black Jack makes a product for roofing that you can spread on with a mop like handle. mostly used in roof valleys, but I suppose it could cover it all.

Don't try to pinch pennies by using driveway sealer, it is worthless as far as roofing sealant goes. It's cheap but you get what you pay for.
